AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Andre Drummond hopes some advanced technology can help him with his free throws. The Detroit Pistons center has been using virtual reality in an effort to improve his performance at the line. Drummond has made 38 percent of his free throws for his career, and its an issue that sometimes has caused coach Stan Van Gundy to take him out down the stretch in games.Andres been very open to trying to find everything possible to help him improve at the free throw line, and he has wanted to do that, Van Gundy said. Hes been willing to do as much as he possibly can. That includes turning to virtual reality, which Drummond said allows him to visualize himself making free throw after free throw. They recorded me shooting a ton of free throws, and obviously recorded the makes, and watching over and over again and just training my brain, he said. The exercise underscores the degree to which the Pistons feel Drummonds struggles are mental and not physical. When I tried it, I ended up really liking it and stuck with it throughout the summer and I saw the progress, Drummond said. Its more of a mental thing, and with the VR, its more of a reinforcement, kind of training your mind to think positively all the time -- even though youre not going to make every shot, but you still have that thought process that youre making shots. The Pistons returned to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2009, but they were swept in the first round by Cleveland. Drummond is a big part of a young lineup with the potential for a lot of improvement -- and theres certainly room for growth when he goes to the line.He didnt say how much hes improved this offseason, since his success rate in practice doesnt ultimately matter. He also indicated he doesnt have a specific idea of a percentage he should shoot this season.I think thats where I messed up last year, was setting a goal in my head, he said. I think for me, its just not worrying about makes or misses, just really shooting the same shot over and over again. Ederson Moraes Manchester City Jersey . Mark Wood has been ruled out of Englands tour to India after the discovery that he bowled at the tail end of the English domestic season with a broken ankle. It all means that Wood faces a third ankle operation within a year and, however optimistic the prognosis, it is bound to cast doubts on the resilience of Englands fastest bowler and invite concerns about his career both at county and England level.Wood had already been ruled out of the one-day and Test series in Bangladesh and his hopes of recovering in time for the India tour were banished when it was discovered that he fractured a bone in his left ankle when bowling in a Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey in September. With Durham under threat of relegation, he chose to ignore warning signs that something was wrong and battled on gamely. Durham stayed up, but it all came to naught when the ECB relegated them anyway after reluctantly intervening to prevent their bankruptcy.Englands national physiotherapy lead Ben Langley put an optimistic slant on Woods recovery, taking comfort from the fact that the injury is different to the one that required two earlier operations.Woody showed his commitment to Durham with the way he bowled 35 overs in that Surrey game, and we know now that he also showed a hell of a lot of courage and resilience, Langley said. His foot and ankle swelled up hugely during the game, which was obviously worrying, and then we were perplexed when nothing significant showed up on the first scan.ddddddddddddIt was only when we got him in for a second scan that we discovered hed been playing on despite having fractured a bone.So its a different injury to what hes had the previous surgery for, and theres no reason to think that when hes had this bone fragment removed, he wont be able to get back to bowling as well he has for Durham, England Lions and England in the second half of the 2016 summer.Wood has been awarded a central Test contract by England for 2016-17 - without such an award it would have been questionable about whether Durham could have afforded his salary so soon after requiring a financial bailout from the ECB - but his ability to fulfil a full international summer remains unproven. He made a blistering comeback in the second half of the summer, delivering some of the most potent fast-bowling spells of the season as he helped Durhams to the final of the NatWest T20 Blast and also featured in Englands 4-1 victory over Pakistan in their one-day international series. He bowled more than 200 overs in all competitions, purportedly without ill effects, but when he pulled out of the Bangladesh tour the problems became evident. Concerns can only have deepened with the latest news. ' ' '
