A few hours after the conclusion of the Habs Rookie Camp on Monday, the Canadiens management announced theyve decided to invite 23 of the 40 rookies to attend their main camp that starts on September 11. For the most part, the players they chose to invite were not all that shocking. All their prospects that are under contract were invited but there were a few interesting moves. One of those moves was keeping Stephen MacAulay, who signed a one-year AHL contract with the Bulldogs this offseason and was the only player with an AHL contract that was asked to stay. MacAulay won the Memorial Cup with the Halifax Mooseheads last season and his performance this past week definitely earned him a spot at the main camp. Defenceman Dalton Thrower, who was selected 51st overall by the Habs at the 2012 Draft, was invited despite not having signed an entry-level contract with the club. A player doesnt need a contract to be invited to main camp but the Canadiens seem to be taking their time with the North Vancouver native. Thrower had a difficult year with his junior team, the Saskatoon Blades last season, which eventually led to him getting traded to the Vancouver Giants this summer. He received a lot of media attention as well after getting suspended for the rest of the Memorial Cup for his hit on Taylor Leier of the Portland Winterhawks. Without signing a contract with the Canadiens, Thrower will be forced to return to the WHL as a 20-year-old. If he can earn himself a contract over the next few days, then he can turn pro this season and will most likely play with the Hamilton Bulldogs. General manager Marc Bergevin was asked on Sunday if he was contemplating offering a contract to Thrower and said if he earns it, he will but did mention that Thrower is a right-handed defenceman and they have quite a few already on the team. However, with Bergevin deciding to keep him around, this could bring Thrower one step closer to becoming a professional hockey player. A player who was left off the list was Brady Vail, a forward for the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL who was the Habs 94th draft pick in 2012. Once the Spitfires season was finished last year, he played 12 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs, picking up a goal and three assists. Vail has not signed an entry-level contract with the Habs and wasnt all that noticeable at rookie camp. Therefore, its pretty understandable why he was sent back to Windsor. The rookies have the day off on Tuesday and will be back at it on Wednesday, but this time with the big boys. Matt Prater Jersey . He even addressed his group of relievers Sunday morning. Dustin McGowan made those worries a nonfactor, at least for a day. McGowan pitched three-hit ball for seven innings, Colby Rasmus hit a grand slam and Melky Cabrera added a two-run homer as the Blue Jays beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2. Devon Kennard Jersey . The three Calgary natives will compete after the sport was skipped by the Vancouver Games in 2010 but later included on the program for Sochi, Russia. The fight to include womens ski jumping prior to Vancouver went to the courts only to have the Supreme Court of Canada rule against the athletes appeal in 2009. http://www.officialdetroitlionsfootball....r-jersey-womens. -- The Anaheim Ducks have signed left wing Dany Heatley to a one-year deal, returning the 33-year-old unrestricted free agent to the Pacific Division. Dwayne Washington Jersey . The win puts the final playoff berth in Group A in question. If the Czechs beat Slovakia on Tuesday, they will go through. If they lose, Germany will get the last quarter-final berth. Glover Quin Jersey . -- Claudio Bieler hadnt scored since early September, and not from the run of play since mid-July.LANDOVER, Md. -- Andy Reid referenced Nelson Mandela, Sporting Kansas City and mangled a metaphor about the Chiefs recent losing streak. Mike Shanahan looked like a beaten man, one who might be counting down his final days with the Washington Redskins. That was no thin line separating winning and losing when the Chiefs beat the Redskins 45-10 Sunday. It was a chasm. The Chiefs (10-3) broke their three-game skid by doing what they did so well during their 9-0 start -- beat up on a bad team. They scored on their first four possessions, sacked Robert Griffin III five times and Kirk Cousins once, and returned both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in Sundays 45-10 rout. All of which prompted Reid to go off-topic, even in his usual monotone. "Sporting KC, Im telling you its hard to be a champion right? And they did it. Im proud of those guys," said Reid, referring to the team back home that won the MLS Cup on Saturday. "I didnt mention Nelson Mandelas death the other day, but what a tribute to mankind he is." OK, but what about getting back on track after two losses to the Denver Broncos sandwiched around a defeat to the San Diego Chargers? "Its tough to lose three games in the National Football League, three consecutive games. It seems like a year, those are dog years as you would say -- each week that you have a loss in the NFL," Reid said. "For the guys to come back and rebound after that, I was proud of that." Across the way, the Redskins were their usual drama machine. They lost their fifth straight, and the stadium was virtually empty in the second half. Its already far from certain as to whether Shanahan will return for a fifth season, and now theres a report that he was close to quitting last year because of his relationships with owner Dan Snyder and Griffin. "Its not the right time or place to talk about my relationship with Dan Snyder, or its not the right time and place to talk about something that happened a year ago," Shanahan said. "Ill get a chance to talk to Dan at the end of the season, and Ill give some viewpoints from me, and Im sure hell give me his thoughts and what direction well go." Shanahan did concedee that Sundays loss -- the Redskins fifth by double digits this season -- was his fault.dddddddddddd "I didnt have the players ready to play," Shanahan said. The first quarter was so lopsided that nearly all the footprints in the snow were on one side of the 50. That discrepancy was quickly corrected when the teams changed sides. The score was 38-10 at halftime. Quintin Demps immediately answered the lone Redskins touchdown with a 95-yard kickoff return that resembled at times a winter stroll, part of a stunning tally of 321 return yards by Kansas City in the first half alone. Alex Smith completed 14 of 20 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Jamaal Charles ran 19 times for 151 yards and a score, and his 35-yard, right-then-left scamper was a highlight of the second half. "You gotta go out there and play no matter what kind of conditions outside," Charles said. "Sleet, snow -- you gotta go." Tamba Hali and Tyson Jackson each had a pair of sacks, and Derrick Johnson set up a touchdown with a 40-yard interception return. Dexter McCluster took a punt 74 yards for a score and set up another TD with a 57-yard return. Fans mostly deserted Washingtons first snowy home game in decades, and those that stayed had plenty to boo. The Chiefs took the opening kickoff and gained 8, 9, 22 and 13 yards on their first four plays. The Redskins were a team with nothing to play for, and they looked like it. Shanahan eventually pulled the plug on Griffin, inserting Cousins for the final quarter. "Its a terrible game to be a part of," Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo said. NOTES: The runbacks by Demps and McCluster gave the Chiefs 10 return touchdowns this season. ... Griffin went 12 for 26 for 164 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Alfred Morris ran for 31 yards on 12 carries, putting him over 1,000 yards for the season. ... The Chiefs went 4-0 this season vs. the NFC East, Reids old division from his years with the Philadelphia Eagles. ... Redskins RB Evan Royster was carted off the field in the first half with a severely sprained left ankle. ... Chiefs CB Marcus Cooper left with a bruised back.
